Keyword Combiner
Generate every combination of two keyword lists for ASO and Apple Ads research.
Combinations (0)
App store searches are overwhelmingly multi-word: users type “free budget app”, “budget planner for couples”, “simple budget tracker” — a core term wrapped in modifiers. This combiner takes two lists — say, modifiers in one column and core keywords in the other — and generates every permutation, turning a 6×8 input into 48 candidate phrases in one click.
The output is a research seed list, not a final keyword field. Feed the combinations into a popularity checker to find which phrases real users search, or paste them into an Apple Ads campaign as exact-match candidates and let impression data do the filtering.
How to generate keyword combinations
- 1
Enter your first list — typically modifiers like “free”, “best”, “simple”, “offline” — one per line.
- 2
Enter your second list — core terms like “budget planner”, “expense tracker” — one per line.
- 3
Generate: the tool produces every pairing in both orders, deduplicated.
- 4
Prune combinations that make no linguistic sense, then check the survivors’ real search popularity before using any of them.
Systematic beats brainstorming for phrase discovery
Brainstorming keyword phrases one at a time reliably misses combinations — you think of “free habit tracker” and “habit tracker app” but skip “daily habit tracker”, which may be the one with an easy ranking opportunity. Crossing structured lists guarantees exhaustive coverage of a phrase space: every modifier meets every core term, and nothing is forgotten because nothing depends on memory.
The technique matters most for long-tail strategy. Head terms like “budget app” are dominated by incumbents, but three-word combinations often have meaningful traffic with weak competition — and those are mechanically discoverable by combining modifier and core lists, then sorting the results by popularity-to-difficulty ratio.
Two very different uses: metadata versus Apple Ads
For App Store metadata, remember you do not paste phrases into the keyword field — Apple builds phrases from individual words automatically. The combiner’s role there is diagnostic: it shows you which phrases your current word pool can already form, and which valuable phrase is missing exactly one word from your metadata. Add that one word and you unlock every combination it participates in.
For Apple Ads the combinations are used literally. Exact-match campaigns need each phrase as its own keyword, and a combiner is the standard way to seed them: modifiers × core terms in, dozens of exact-match candidates out, low bids on, and two weeks of impression data tells you which phrases the market actually searches. Winners graduate to higher bids and into your organic metadata plan.
Frequently asked questions
What does a keyword combiner do?
It crosses two lists of words or phrases into every possible pairing — list A × list B, usually in both orders — and deduplicates the results. Six modifiers and eight core terms yield up to 96 ordered combinations from 14 lines of input.
Should I paste the generated phrases into my App Store keyword field?
No — that would waste characters. Apple combines individual words across your name, subtitle, and keyword field into phrases automatically, so you only need each unique word once. Use the generated phrases for research: to check popularity, spot gaps, and seed Apple Ads campaigns.
What are good modifier lists to start from?
Intent modifiers (“free”, “best”, “simple”, “pro”), audience modifiers (“for kids”, “for couples”, “for students”), context modifiers (“offline”, “daily”, “2026”), and platform terms (“widget”, “watch”). Cross each set against your core category terms separately to keep the output reviewable.
How do I know which combinations are worth targeting?
Check real search popularity — a grammatical phrase with zero searches is worthless. Sort the combined list by popularity and difficulty, discard the dead phrases, and prioritize combinations where traffic is decent but the current top results are weakly optimized.
Can I use the output for Google Play too?
Yes, and on Play the phrases are directly usable: because Google indexes your descriptions, high-value combinations can be worked verbatim into the short and full description, where phrase-level matching genuinely applies.
